Evaluation of Risks During Pregnancy

the training, experience & tools
to assess a pregnancy’s risk.

After becoming obstetricians, our physicians each spent two or three additional years in maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) training, where they focused exclusively on high-risk pregnancies. Today, MFM specialists are the physicians uniquely qualified to detect and care for pregnancy risks and abnormalities... and high-risk pregnancies — and ultrasound — are their entire focus.

Setting the standard for
thorough, state-of-the-art testing.

At Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine, we provide comprehensive maternal and fetal evaluation throughout a high-risk pregnancy. As area leaders in MFM, we offer some of the most advanced, thorough testing in Nevada.

Detailed Medical History – We ask many thorough and detailed questions to identify all potential risks to a pregnancy. In many cases, this step identifies risks unknown prior to the referral.

Thorough Blood Screenings – We run standard blood panels as well as tests specific to known or suspected health issues. And unlike many providers, we test — when it’s indicated — for rare blood-clotting disorders (thrombophilias) that could lead to fetal growth restriction, miscarriage or stillbirth.

State-Of-The-Art Ultrasound – As one of Phillips Ultrasound’s few teaching and research sites in the U.S., our ultrasound capabilities are unsurpassed in Nevada... and yield more than twice as much data as routine ultrasound.

Amniocentesis – Amniocentesis diagnoses 99% of such chromosomal abnormalities as Down syndrome, trisomy 18 and neural tube defects. MFM specialists reduce the normal risk of spontaneous miscarriage by roughly half.

Chorionic Villus Sampling – Between weeks 10 and 14, we can take a tiny sample of the placenta in order to detect genetic abnormalities — five to six weeks earlier than amniocentesis. No other provider in Nevada can routinely perform this procedure.

Fetal Echocardiography – With leading-edge ultrasound and specialty MFM knowledge, we can assess the baby’s heart structure and function in utero. We also combine our expertise with a pediatric cardiologists who — when needed — will see patients with us here in our office.
