Damon I. Masaki, MD SUBSPECIALIST IN MATERNAL- FETAL MEDICINE
“My career path was not a direct route. In the early part of my medical training, my goal was to become a cardiologist. While in my residency in internal medicine, I was asked to evaluate and treat patients with serious medical problems who also happened to be pregnant. I soon found myself very interested in the physiology of pregnancy. I also began to enjoy the challenges and rewards of caring for the health of expectant mothers and their babies simultaneously. As a result of this experience, after earning board certification in internal medicine, I decided my calling was in maternal-fetal medicine (MFM).
“In the nearly two decades that I’ve been an MFM specialist, I’ve always been glad that I changed career paths. One of the most important aspects of being a physician is to provide hope. For me, nothing exemplifies this like helping mothers-to-be with risk factors or complications to have successful, full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. These women — and their babies — deserve the best possible care, and I’m proud to strive for that every day.”
