Our facilities, physicians, and sonographers have been certified by the American Institute of ultrasound in medicine in obstetrical ultrasound.
A practice that has been given the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) accreditation is a significant milestone in patient care. We are equally enthusiastic that the Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine was the first current practice in Nevada to have AIUM accreditation in obstetrical ultrasound. As of January 2009, no other obstetric or perinatal practice in southern Nevada is AIUM certified. This is a voluntary process that includes a top to bottom checkup on all aspects of an ultrasound practice. These aspects include detailed reviews of physician dictations, physical facilities, ultrasound machines, detailed instructions and protocols for performing each ultrasound test, and most importantly policies for safeguarding the health and safety of every patient who has an ultrasound examination (such as cleaning equipment such as vaginal probes), plus much more.
Prior to the AIUM accreditation, the quality of exams is judged by reviewing actual ultrasound pictures to see that they are complete, detailed, technically acceptable, and accurately reported. The AIUM also requires certification, training, and continuing education. Ultrasound practices accredited by the AIUM are asked go through the same exhaustive review every 3 years to retain accreditation. Therefore, AIUM accreditation provides a quality measure that is very reassuringfor patients. This accreditation is the hallmark of an ultrasound practice that meets nationally accepted standards a patient care, demonstrates consistent excellence, and is current with the latest in ultrasound technology.
