Every ultrasound is performed by perinatologist, or observed thoroughly through live scanning by a perinatologist and sonographer.
Fetuses are not just pictures. There are living beings. Looking at ultrasound images only is suboptimal. In the 1960s, ultrasounds used to be single image machines much like x-rays. In the 1970s real-time ultrasound displayed actual movement of the developing fetus. Real-time ultrasonography allows the visualization of the fetus from multiple images and planes, and provides the best manner of maximally examining your developing baby. Also having the physician in the room allows the patient to ask questions of the physician performing the examination, and receive further explanation of the examination.
